Congressman Dan Lungren unveiled a landmark energy bill alongside Republican colleagues yesterday. The group, gathered on the West front steps of the U.S. Capitol, publicly introduced the American Energy Act, which will lower gas prices and break our nation's dependence on foreign oil. In the face of unprecedented oil prices, Lungren demanded action on the bill before Congress adjourns for the month of August. Majority leaders have blocked other energy proposals from the floor of the House. |

Lungren Demands of Congress: 'Don’t Just Sit There, Do Something' on Record Gas Prices |

Congressman Dan Lungren lambasted the Congressional Majority for doing nothing to increase American energy production in the face of record gasoline prices.
Watch Video Stating that he was in support of "all of the above" on energy solutions, including drilling in ANWR and offshore, exploring shale oil possibilities, providing incentives for wind, solar, and other alternative energy sources, and increasing the use of nuclear power, Lungren demanded the Congress work for solutions to America's energy crisis—or at least let Congress vote on those solutions. The Majority leadership has blocked legislation from the House floor that would increase American oil production and thus lower the price of oil.
More maddening still, said Lungren, was that the Natural Resources Committee, which has jurisdiction over drilling in ANWR and offshore, brought "a bill that talks about a historic trail" rather than deal with energy solutions.
"We waited 227 years to designate it as a historical trail—you'd think we can wait a couple more months and do something on energy now," said Lungren. |
